ADAM DELBRIDGE-SMITH
TRUMPET PLAYER. CONDUCTOR. MUSICIAN
Adam Delbridge-Smith is a 19-year-old student from Cornwall where he started playing the trumpet at the age of 5 and learned his passion for music. He is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, under the pedagogy of Tracey Redfern.
Throughout his years of playing Adam has achieved many qualifications and is passionate about furthering his personal and social development. Adam really does enjoy playing the trumpet more than anything else and it’s led him to acquire a deeper understanding of the composition, analysis, and, the theory of music.
Adam has enjoyed playing in many different ensembles. At the age of 9, he joined St Newlyn East Brass Band, where he became Principal Cornet by age 11. In 2015 he became the conductor of the band. This was an exciting opportunity for him to take greater responsibility in supporting and directing the musical talent of others, whilst ensuring the integrity of the performance.
Adam achieved the position of Principal Trumpet in both the Cornwall Youth Orchestra (CYO) and Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble from the years 2014 to 2018. He also conducted CYO for a performance of Holst’s Mars from the Planets suite.
Playing in CYO has given Adam some of the most important moments of his performing life to date. The Orchestra has performed at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Music for Youth Schools Prom in 2013, 2015 and 2017. Adam also was a member of a group called Terpsichore where they performed repertoire ranging from the renaissance to baroque period.
Away from the trumpet, Adam enjoys singing in Truro Male Choir as a baritone when he is home from Conservatoire. This led to Adam singing John Adam’s Harmonium with the BBC Proms Youth Choir in the first night of the BBC proms in 2017. He was also granted a place in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain in 2018.
Adam’s ambition in life is to become a Master of Music, a performer, and to make his mark in the musical world of classical and contemporary performance.
